Diagnosis: A Layer Model of FlexRay
For a systematic test and diagnosis of a communication system it is desirable to have at least one or a small set of dedicated nodes
with extended monitoring and some fault injection capabilities. To identify the basic functional entities of a FlexRay controller we
introduce the concept of mechanism and abstraction level. An abstraction level represents a detailed view of the system
whereas a mechanism provides simple - ideally atomic - services that are controlled by several inputs and optional configuration parameters
and produce one or more outputs.
The following figure presents a layer model of a FlexRay communication system structured according to the OSI reference model.
