Friedrich Praus was born in 1981 in Vienna. He studied Computer
Science and Computer Science Management at the
Vienna University of Technology. In 2015 he received his Dr. techn. (Doctor of Technical Sciences)
for the dissertation entitled „Secure Control Applications in Smart Homes and Buildings“ from the Vienna University of Technology.
From 2006 to 2010 he
worked as hardware technician and research assistant at the
Institute of Computer Aided Automation, Vienna University of Technology with a special focus on Home and
Building Automation, Security, Wireless in Automation Systems and Embedded Systems. From 2006 to 2007 he
also was employed at the Institute for Integrated Sensor Systems,
Austrian Academy of Sciences and concentrated on High Accuracy Clock Synchronization.
Since 2010 he is staff member of the department of
Embedded Systems, Technikum Wien. From 2010 to 2014 he was appointed to the professorship for Ambient
Assistive Technologies. From 2014 to 2016 he worked in research and development and as lecturer. Since 2016 he additionally is employed as program director of the bachelor program smart homes and assistive technologies.
His research and teaching focus lies on Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems, Smart Homes and Buildings involving wireless (KNX RF, EnOcean, ZigBee, ...) and wired (KNX, LonWorks, BACnet) automation systems and their secure integration into active and assisted living (AAL) applications.
Mr. Praus has successfully passed the KNX Tutor course and is member of the IEEE and AAL Austria. He received the KNX Scientific Award in 2014 and in 2016. He additionally passed the seminars Hochschuldidaktik I, Hochschuldidaktik II and Gender & Diversity. Mr. Praus is engaged in international research activities (reviewing, session chair, organizing and program committee).
