Hermann Detz graduated from TU Wien in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Microelectronics with a Dipl.-Ing. (2007) and a Dr. techn. (2011), both with honors. He was a member of the project staff at the Center for Micro- and Nanostructures at TU Wien from 2007-2023, where he focused on novel semiconductor materials for optoelectronic devices in the mid- and far-infrared. He received an APART Fellowship of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in 2015, which allowed him to focus on the epitaxial growth and modeling of novel materials for THz quantum cascade lasers in collaboration with École Normale Supérieure in Paris. In 2018, he joined the Central European Institute of Technology CEITEC of Brno University of Technology (CZ) as a research group leader for "Epitaxial Materials and Nanostructures", where he remains affiliated. In 2023, he became a senior researcher and lecturer at Technikum Wien within the embedded systems research group. In 2024 he moved to the Faculty of Computer Science.
Hermann Detz is co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, currently resulting in a h-index of 33, see his Google Scholar profile.
