Oct 25, 2013 - SAT Project Started at our Department

In October 2013 the project "Software Analysis Toolbox" has started and will run until the end of March 2017. The project's aim is the development of open source software tools and infrastructure for hardware related software analysis to support programming lectures in the field of embedded systems by providing those tools within a cloud context. The interdisciplinary requirements of this project are met by project members of the following three departments "Embedded Systems", "Information Engineering & Security" and "Computer Science". For detailed information see the project website ...

Oct 3, 2013 - Josef Ressel Center VECS Kick-off Event

On Oct 1, 2013 the official kick-off event of the Josef Ressel Center VECS (Verification of Embedded Computing Systems) took place at the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien. The research centre aims to bridge the gap between the scientific state-of-the-art and industrial practice in the area of verification and test methods for embedded systems. Both hardware as well as software aspects are tackled. More information can be found here ...

Sep 24, 2013 - New Vision-based Navigation for Micro Air Vehicles

On September 19-20 the "Micro Air Vehicle Team" of the Dept. of Embedded Systems presented their newly developed vision-based navigation system at the "Robotics in Education 2013" conference in Lodz, Poland. It is based on a small CMOS camera on the mobile robot and three reference IR LEDs on the ground. By analyzing the pictures from the camera the navigation computer on the mobile robot can calculate his absolute position with cm precision. The navigation system uses a Gumstix Overo Firestorm Computer with a 32 bit ARM Cortex A8 core running at 1 GHz and weighs only 40 grams. The 752x480 pixel images are processed with a speed of 12 frames per second.

Sep 18, 2013 - "Wiener Forschungsfest 2013"

Various innovations and developments of the Dept. of Embedded Systems have been presented at the Vienna Science Fair, including face tracking and camera-based mouse emulation, Smart Home control, a mobile snack serving robot for kids and a classical "Pong" game, controlled via bike ergometers.

Aug 8, 2013 - ASME/MESA2013 Conference

Peter Rössler and Martin Horauer are organizing two symposia on "Design & Verification Tools for Embedded Systems" and "Embedded Systems Infrastructure and Theory" in the context of the ASME/IEEE MESA2013 that will take place in the context of the ASME IDETC/CIE 2013 in Potrland, Oregon USA.

Jun 7, 2013 - First "Wiener Technikgespräche" at the UAS Technikum Wien

On July 5, the FH Technikum Wien opened its new building. In that context, eight experts presented research results related to the topic "More Space for Technology". Friedrich Praus, lecturer and researcher at the Dept. of Embedded Systems, talked about "Intelligentes Wohnen durch Automatisierung", giving an insight view into the state of the art as well as research and teaching activities in the area of Smart Buildings, Smart Homes and Ambient Assisted Living.

May 10, 2013 - First Microchip Design of the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien

In April 2014, 40 prototype samples of a microchip design have been manufactured by ams (formerly austriamicrosystems) in Unterpremstaetten, Austria. The microchip was designed by our department in context to the R&D project TWASIC. It is the first microchip that has been developed by the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien.
